Henley’s Christmas Styling tips showcased on Studio Ten
Our inspirational Henley Interior Designer Micaela Austin was joined by legendary co-hosts Kerri-Anne Kennerley and Denise Scott to talk all things Christmas table setting style for 2018.
With lots of laughter and a few nibbles along the way, Micaela talked through the simplicity and ease in setting up a truly unique Christmas table setting, which is inexpensive, yet very effective and beautiful.
All about modern Australian
Micaela urged viewers to choose a particular theme for their table setting from the outset. For this morning’s segment, Micaela chose a stunning modern Australian table setting, complete with gum nuts, rosemary and beautiful green foliage.
Micaela recommended that the fresh foliage be picked the morning of the get together, so you have the natural aromas of the foliage present at the table.
“All the pieces featured in this particular centre piece can be picked up in your front or back yard. You don’t have to spend a fortune in being able to achieve this look.”
Getting the layered look
In the segment, Micaela used a black table cloth, for more dramatic effect. Then she showed Kerrie-Anne and Denise how to layer the look with table mats, plates and bowls.
For Micaela’s layered table setting, she used a wooden cheese board to act as a place mat with grey and black crockery.
Micaela said, “This is a relaxed take on Christmas with your plates and crockery, not having to be matched.”
“The Henley Christmas style that we’ve created doesn’t require high end shopping or extensive searching for unique pieces - most of the items used are from major retailers.”
There’s always room for food
Micaela presented her top tips in how to present food at the table to make it look like a magazine spread.
“Start with the larger items first and then fill in the gaps. For this platter, I am filling in the gaps with mixed nuts, completing the platter.”
Kerrie-Anne was intrigued to see Micaela pour honey on a barrel of camembert with blue berries. Both Kerrie-Anne and Denise thoroughly enjoyed that nibbling on that part of the setting!
More table inspiration
Henley also presented other table settings including a Palm Springs theme spread complete with beautiful pastel pink hues and pineapples and coconuts for that added WOW factor.
A more formal table setting was the Luxe Noir theme, featuring elements of black in the setting.
“With this formal, sit down setting, there is the pinks, oranges and green tones to keep the setting festive and contemporary.” Micaela said.
